Herbal Humours: Behaviour, Physiology & Herbal Selection
This day introduces the Western Herbal Medicine framework of the Four Humours as a practical way of understanding animals through behaviour, physiology, and tissue state.
Rather than diagnosing, we will explore how humoural patterns show up in movement, digestion, tone, posture, energy, and interaction, and how these patterns help guide which herbs are most relevant for the animal at that time.
Key themes include:
-
The four humours and their core qualities (Blood, Yellow bile, Black bile, Phlegm)
-
Recognising humoural tendencies through observable animal physiology and behaviour
-
Using humoural understanding to refine herbal selection alongside innate selection and seasonal awareness
Practical work with herbs supports a grounded, embodied understanding of humoural qualities and how this classical framework can be applied meaningfully in modern animal herbal practice.
